Easter joy lights up the faces of Ukrainian preschoolers
This Easter, laughter and joy filled the Community Space of the Support Center for Ukrainian Refugees, where Hungarian Interchurch Aid hosted a heartwarming celebration for young children from Ukrainian refugee families. The event brought a touch of spring magic to preschoolers and early school-age kids, who dove excitedly into Easter egg hunts and colorful crafts. Meanwhile, their parents embraced the festive spirit by decorating holiday eggs using the delicate art of decoupage.
The shared experiences not only brought the spirit of Easter closer but also strengthened the sense of belonging to a community — something especially important for those seeking a fresh start far from home. Ivanka feels the same way; her daughter has been part of the Ukrainian refugee community that has formed around the Community Space for some time now. “We didn’t know anyone in Hungary before we came here, but now we’ve become friends with several families who are in a similar situation to ours,” Ivanka says with a slight smile. “My daughter is three years old, and it’s wonderful that she can explore the world around her like a normal child here.”
