I need help!

Hungarian Interchurch Aid has had a permanent presence in Ukraine for nearly two and a half decades, and in February 2022, we were among the first to start providing assistance to refugees fleeing the war. Our goal is to help those in need and internally displaced people in Ukraine, as well as refugees in Hungary to find food, shelter and a way out of their difficult situation. In Ukraine, we have three regional offices: Berehove, Lviv and Kyiv. Working with several local partner organisations, we provide quick and effective support to those in need in both countries.

If you need help in Hungary, contact our offices in Budapest. If you need help in Ukraine, please contact our Ukrainian offices.

From providing all kinds of information, organising various community events and courses to the distribution of in-kind donations, the Support Centre aims to cover all issues refugees can face while living in Hungary. The institution employs social workers, psychologists and aid workers to give refugees looking for mental support, legal counsel, accommodation, access to the labour market, healthcare and education a helping hand. Closely attached to the Centre is a community space where Ukrainian-speaking mental health professionals help children aged 1 to 6 to cope with their underlying traumas by providing various kinds of therapies (art, music) while their parents are off to work.

The Berehove office of Hungarian Interchurch Aid is playing a major role in assisting the hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people arriving in the region and is working closely with the Zakarpattia regional administration to this end. More than 250 community shelters and local social institutions are supported through Berehove in all districts of Zakarpattia region. In addition to IDPs, we also help locals in need who are destitute due to the consequences of the war.
